Community
God has placed us into the Kankakee Valley Community to minister for His Glory. We have members and attendees from as far away as Wheeler, Rensselaer, Valparaiso, and Kouts. But most of our folks are from DeMotte, Hebron, and Wheatfield. We believe that God has a specific mission for us to minister to our community by faithfully representing our Lord Jesus in our daily lives. Bible Although in the middle of our name, it is the basis of all that we believe. God has spoken to humanity through His Son and through His Word. We are fully committed to being a “Bible-based” church. This means that we seek to proclaim God’s Word each Sunday in our worship. It also means that we teach our children the Bible in our Sunday School classes. And we seek to obey God’s Word in our personal lives and in the community. Church While Jesus was still on earth, He stated that, “I will build my church”. Although we are a “local Church”, it is our desire to be a representative of the “universal church” which is all of Jesus’ true followers. Our History We believe that God calls His people into existence through His Word! True churches are called together to be a local expression of the body of Christ through the proclamation of the Scriptures. It was through home Bible studies that this process began for Community Bible Church in January and February of 1969. Several believers began meeting together in homes for Bible study in January of 1969. They were drawn together because of a growing commitment to “believer’s baptism” and to a pre-millennial understanding of Bible prophecy. There were at least 4 Bible study meetings in January and February. Some of the men sought counsel from Pastor George Irwin and Rev. Brian Jones. On February 21, 1969, nine men met together in the home of Bob and Ruth Zwart to adopt a constitution. The first official church service was held on Resurrection Sunday, April 6, 1969 in the basement of The Faith Lutheran Church, which was then located at 207 9th Street SE, DeMotte, IN. This facility was rented for church services for the first 18 months. The building program at 814 North Halleck Street, DeMotte, IN began in May of 1970, and the building was dedicated on October 21-22, 1970. Rev. Max Thomason was called as the first pastor on June 18, 1970. Like any church, we’ve seen our peaks and valleys, but God has granted grace during difficult times and has given us the joy of being used in this community as a witness to the Gospel. We have supported missionaries around the world and have sent small groups on missions trips to places as far away as Africa and the Middle East. It is great joy to be a part of His kingdom! |
